Exploring Nature’s Colours

The Basic Idea

Each pair or group of pupils has one/two paint sample colour cards. They go out into natural environment, try to find something that matches the colour on the card and photograph the paint colour card next to the object in nature that it most closely matches. On returning to the classroom pupils can either: a) Identify what they have found using classification keys/charts or nature identification apps (e.g. Natural History Museum’s LeafSnap App for leaf/tree identification) or b) Create similes based on their findings (as blue as a….)and create a collection on the class wall to use to support writing.
